Amalya, high school student in Gourdon and gold seamstress at Meilleurs Apprentis de France

Amalya Beux, a student specialized in fashion professions – clothing at the Léo-Ferré secondary school in Gourdon, celebrated her 18th birthday on Tuesday, March 12. To complete her birthday, she offered herself nothing more and nothing less than the gold medal in the national competition for Best Student of France (MAF) 2023 for the Paul and Liliane Gillant class. She has just received the precious MAF diploma at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, accompanied by Nadine Vélard, jury member and master ceramist at Gourdon.

Her teachers, Claudine Espinet and Camille Favre, are very proud that Amalya has received this award, but not only that: Amalya is their first student who has completed wonderful internships during her business training.

A model by Thierry Mugler

For five weeks, she visited the prestigious haute couture house Herminie Cadolle, founded by the feminist activist and seamstress who revolutionized women’s comfort by inventing the bra. Then “Indiscrète”, a lingerie factory specialized in special sizes, which makes tailor-made items for a wealthy clientele.

The subject of MAF emerged from an inspiration from Thierry Mugler, stylist and great couturier from Strasbourg. It was a model with a lot of technical problems: a highly structured pleated dress in red fabric, points, a lively and structured side, precise cutouts and straps, patch pockets at the back and an invisible zipper. A real challenge!

A revelation

Amalya says she had a difficult school education at Saint-Céré College. The fame of the sewing classes in Gourdon attracted her and since she entered the school complex, she has finally found her way, like a revelation that lay dormant within her. A clear path to the future opens up as Amalya approaches her high school exit with flying colors and an extraordinary resume.

It is the year of the baccalaureate and Amalya has chosen to continue her studies and selected three local additional training schools (FCIL) in sewing.
