Decazeville: students worked on a way to reduce energy consumption by 30%

A hackathon ‘Green industry – for a responsible, sustainable and low-carbon industry’ took place at the high school in Decazeville.

No fewer than 34 pupils and students from the secondary schools La Découverte (Decazeville), Alexis Monteil (Rodez), Jean-François Champollion (Figeac), Antoine Bourdelle (Montauban) and IUT de Rodez took part in a Hackathon, with which they trained young people (or adults) around a collaborative project.

This event is organized at the Lycée La Découverte in Decazeville by the Campus of Trades and Qualifications of Excellence Industry of the future, in collaboration with Mecanic Vallée.
5 teams were formed to think about ways to optimize the power and consumption of a machine. They were subjected to a real case study based on two machines for machining metal parts (aircraft fuselage panels). Challenge: Reduce energy consumption in the workshop by at least 30% while decarbonizing the environment. The young people were supported by teachers and representatives of the companies Figeac Aero, Fives Machining and Ratier-Figeac.

Medals and diplomas

From 2.30 pm a presentation of their work took place before a jury who praised the quality of their performances. The first 3 teams received medals and diplomas. But all the young ‘competitors’ left with a reward.

The Campus of Professions and Qualifications of Excellence Industry of the Future, awarded the label in 2017, brings together: a network of secondary, general, technological, professional and higher education institutions, initial or further training; training organizations; research laboratories; economic and associative partners. Everything is aimed at the mechanical industry.

This large network forms a link between the training world and the local industrial fabric. It operates in the territory of Mecanic Vallée and is based at the Lycée La Découverte in Decazeville.
