AI interior advice

Ikea is launching its own AI assistant through the OpenAI GPT Store, which helps design, inspire and buy items from the furniture store chain. In ChatGPT's familiar chat window, consumers can receive personalized suggestions for furniture and decor, based on factors such as room dimensions, personal style, sustainability preferences, budget, functional requirements and more.

What can this be used for? Ikea itself gives some examples. For example, “show me a comfortable living room for a small apartment using sustainable materials” could be a suggestion, but users can also search the catalog and get current information about the availability of furniture in different locations. The system is also powered by interior examples and decorator tips.

For now, the AI tool is only available to GPT Plus users in the United States, but Ikea plans to expand it to other markets where ChatGPT will be available later this year. Perhaps the AI assistant will eventually have a life beyond the OpenAI site, as Global Chief Digital Officer Parag Parekh calls the evolving initiative.
