Toulouse Airport: a demonstration to demand a restriction of air traffic

Associations representing residents of Toulouse airport and climate activists gathered in front of the prefecture at the end of the day this Wednesday to demand, as part of a European appeal, a restriction on air traffic.

Eighty people responded this Wednesday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. in front of the prefecture to the call from the Rester sur Terre Network and the French Union against Aircraft Nuisance for, as part of a European mobilization, “a limitation and reduction of air traffic and, in Toulouse , a curfew,” Chantal Beer-Demander summarized. For the chairman of the collective against air pollution in the urban area, this meeting, punctuated by small stagings and which took place peacefully, has the value of “a great historical first because local residents and climate activists are united” with the same goal: limiting air traffic .

The association France Nature Environnement, Friends of the Earth, the Pensons l’aéronautique pour Tourisme collective and the Political Ecology Workshop were represented.

Doubled traffic

“Traffic is starting to increase again on many platforms. Toulouse has not yet returned to pre-corona crisis levels, but all lights are green,” underlines Chantal Beer-Demander, who also relies on an Airbus forecast announcing a doubling of traffic in twenty years. “It is incompatible with the health of local residents,” she emphasized, “and air traffic contributes to global warming.”

Régis Godec and Helene Cabanes for EELV, Julien Klotz for the PS and Victoria Scampa (LFI) spoke.

Another meeting for the Ministry of Transport is planned for Friday in Paris.
